The shorter days and longer nights are in…How can hypnosis help with Seasonal Affective Disorder?
Some of the areas where the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder impact the clients we work with:
The first can be the emotional responses such as restlessness and irritability, particularly during the winter months. That said, this can affect people throughout any of the seasons but is more prevalent for most people during the winter months.
An emotional feeling of sadness or depression – these are the emotional symptoms that we see.
The social implications of SAD include a loss of interest and inactivity of the things that used to interest us – disengagement that usually provide a sense of fulfilment and meaning to us.
Feeling unmotivated during these time periods can also lead up to a build up of more sadness and discontent.
Physical symptoms include weight gain as people will report an increase in comfort, heavier and unhealthy foods – mainly carbohydrates & sugar!
This pattern of eating can be a response of SAD and exacerbate the symptoms in the long run.
Clients can report feelings of doom, feeling trapped or even claustrophobic ..
I have been asked how can clinical hypnotherapy be useful as a tool to help people overcome SAD?
Clinical hypnotherapy can be used to change physical awareness. A self hypnosis MP3 is a valuable tool to address the needs during these periods and you can experience this in the form of autogenic training.
Hypnosis can create hope through the power of visualisation.
We can utilise it in almost all hypnosis sessions to create hope for a new season … SAD can be reframed using hypnotic language and techniques in order to help a person manage the metaphysical symptoms of SAD, to rise above the momentary experience to a state of acceptance embracing all of the different seasons that we have.
We can Motivate and train new coping behaviours to help our clients adapt new motivations and coping strategies.
Meditation, mindfulness and movement are key to help change the physiology of the emotions and body.
Just like with our weight reduction clients we ask them to download a pedometer app – increasing the daily activity each day through walking. Taking more steps today that yesterday, more steps tomorrow than today and increasing your steps each and every day to 10,000 steps a day.
These are some of the most effective techniques to treat SAD as If we stop moving we stop living ..
Its time to start living again ..
We will shortly be providing a complimentary MP3 download which we hope will be a useful tool if you are experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder.
